Chris Mailler is a Boston-based contemporary painter whose work moves between abstraction and landscape, shaped by a sensitivity to light, atmosphere, and spatial depth. She is a graduate of Tufts University’s School of the Museum of Fine Arts and maintains a studio in Boston’s Northshore, where the coastal environment continues to inform her practice.
Her work includes original paintings, commissions, and select print and licensing collaborations, with placements in residential, hospitality, and commercial spaces across the United States. Working through an intuitive, process-driven approach, Mailler creates immersive fields of color and texture that explore perception, memory, and the quiet tension of the horizon.
Rooted in coastal abstraction, the Meditations series examines the atmospheric threshold between sky and sea through her intuitive approach. Developed through layered color, texture, and calibrated tonal shifts, the work engages light as a form of memory, evoking a quiet nostalgia for ocean views and the persistent visual pull of the horizon.
Each painting unfolds through sustained looking. Subtle variations in surface and tone produce spatial ambiguity, where depth, movement, and atmosphere remain in flux. Rather than depicting a fixed location, the work operates as an immersive field of perception, reflecting the meditative act of looking with stillness, where vision slows and the boundary between sky and sea becomes both a visual and psychological point of orientation.
